3 Potential Trade Destinations for Kraken's Jared McCann
The Seattle Kraken are in sell mode and Jared McCann is drawing a ton of interest, as we're just hours away from the NHL's trade deadline. GM Ron Francis has thrown in the white towel for this season and next, and is open to a futures-loaded trade package on most of his players.
McCann's a streaky scorer, who is leading the Kraken in points this season with 44 points in 62 games. He is owed $5 million AAV for two more seasons and does hold a 10-team no-trade clause. Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli recently added McCann to his trade watch board, and had this to say:
Interesting note that GM Ron Francis vowed on Wednesday with the Yanni Gourde/Oliver Bjorkstrand return to make the Kraken better. There aren’t many 40-goal scorers on this list, but McCann is one of them, and there’s no doubt they could get a massive haul for him with two years left at such a great price. But that brings us back to the premise. Teams are calling, but would that bring Seattle closer or further away from getting better?
As far as potential trade destinations go, keep an eye on the Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, and Toronto Maple Leafs. All three teams would like to add to their top six and prefer players with term. It seems to be a sellers market this year, so it would be wise for the Kraken to cash in and hit the button on a reset.
McCann's likely on the move before Friday, along with teammate Brandon Tanev.
