3 San Jose Sharks Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout
The San Jose Sharks aren't at a point where they are going to be able to come out of their rebuild just yet, but they are on their way. The team will still be bad next season, but there are going to be some changes, especially from some of the players who haven't done well, even after moving on from a handful more players at the trade deadline.
Klim Kostin
Klim Kostin just hasn't fit in with the Sharks, even with a weaker lineup and less competition. He has averaged less than 11 minutes per game and has played just 34 games, recording one goal and seven points. While he can play in the NHL, this just hasn't been a fit for him. He is a RFA after the season and with the number of players the Sharks have and who they could bring in during the offseason, it's likely Kostin won't even get a qualifying offer.
Alexandar Georgiev
Alexandar Georgiev has struggled since last season and the Colorado Avalanche smartly moved on from him earlier this season. His struggles combined with the worst team in the league has been disastrous, but that is okay for this season. For Georgiev, it won't get him another contract though as he has put up a 3.84 GAA, .875 SV%, and just five wins in 22 starts. Yaroslav Askarov has much better numbers and the Sharks will go out and get a veteran who could play better in tandem with their young goalie.
Jan Rutta
Jan Rutta is a UFA after the season and it is an easy decision to move on from the depth veteran defender. He has gotten in most of the games, but the Sharks have five defensemen signed through next season, Shakir Mukhamadullin to sign as a RFA, some good young players in the system, and space to add a bigger free agent or bring in someone in a trade. There isn't a place for Rutta on this team that is looking to take a step forward.
