3 Seattle Kraken Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout
The Seattle Kraken are stuck in no man's land right now. There are some talented young players starting to impact the team, but a lot of average veterans who either aren't performing up to par or declining. The team made a big trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning at the deadline to move some pieces, but more has to be done in the offseason if they want to start rising in the standings.
Philipp Grubauer
This needs to start with Philipp Grubauer. He is under contract for two more years at $5.9 million AAV, but the team seems to be headed on a path to buy him out in the offseason. It will save the organization money and save the team some cap space the next two seasons. His numbers have been so bad that the veteran was sent down to the AHL at a point this season. Grubauer has a 7-15-1 record with a 3.61 GAA and .872 SV%. Joey Daccord's new contract also kicks in next season, so the Kraken can do better with almost anyone else next season for cheap.
Cale Fleury
Cale Fleury hasn't developed into the player the Kraken had hoped when they first brought him in. He is now 26 years old and can't seem to get into games. Fleury has only played nine games this season and is a UFA after the season. While the team has four d-men signed and will need to give Ryker Evans a contract as well, the Kraken have the cap space and opportunity to bring in someone who will have an impact in the lineup. Fleury averaged less than 13 minutes per game of ice time this season and only has 72 games of NHL experience.
Michael Eyssimont
Michael Eyssimont was a piece brought back in the big trade with the Lightning and he hasn't had a big role since entering the lineup. He is on the fourth line and is playing less than 10 minutes per game. He has managed to score two goals in six games, but whoever the team heads into next season with can't get in the way of ice time for Shane Wright, Tye Kartye, and Jani Nyman. Eyssimont is a replaceable player, but he might prove to be more useful for the Kraken in the remaining games.
