3 Tampa Bay Lightning Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout
The Tampa Bay Lightning geared up for a deep playoff run at the trade deadline and brought in some talent that will not only help them this season, but next as well. There will still have to be some changes made in the offseason as the team needs to patch some holes and get even better.
Cam Atkinson
Cam Atkinson hasn't been a great signing, but there wasn't much the Lightning could do with so little money to spend on their depth. While Atkinson hasn't worked out, it isn't a huge hit as others have stepped in and the acquisitions at the trade deadline made the lineup a lot better. Atkinson was sent to the minors at a time and is now back up with the team, but the 35-year-old is a UFA after the season and has just four goals and nine points in 38 games while averaging less than nine minutes per game. The last part is the biggest reason why the Lightning won't give him another contract.
Jonas Johansson
Jonas Johansson has been the cheap backup for the Lightning behind the beast, Andrei Vasilevskiy, for two years now and his overall numbers aren't great. His career SV% is .889 and his SV% with the Lightning is .892 in 41 games. There will be a number of other options in net in the offseason that Tampa Bay can target as Johansson will be a free agent. It just makes sense to upgrade so that the team is comfortable in games Vasilevskiy isn't starting and if any injury were to occur.
Luke Glendening
Luke Glendening has been strong in the faceoffs, but he needs to do more. Even as the fourth line center in the role he's in, he has had next to no offensive production with four goals and seven points in 68 games. He's never been great at adding offense, but this is particularly low and his giveaways are higher than they have been for the last four seasons. Glendening is a free agent and there is a chance the Lightning just give him a cheap one-year deal, but there's also a good chance the team searches for a replacement who can do what the 35-year-old does, but adds even more.
