3 Washington Capitals Contract Extension Candidates
The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.
In this latest edition of the series, we will be focusing on the Eastern Conference's top team right now, the Washington Capitals.
Jakob Chychrun
Chychrun has been a home run of an addition for the Capitals this season. In 62 games this campaign, the 26-year-old defenseman has 18 goals, 42 points, and a plus-23 rating. With numbers like these, he is a significant part of the Capitals' blueline, and they should work hard to extend the pending unrestricted free agent because of it.
Nic Dowd
Dowd has been an important part of the Capitals' bottom six for a while, and they could aim to keep him around beyond this season because of it. The 34-year-old center is in the middle of a solid season with the Capitals, as he has 12 goals, 23 points, 106 hits, and a plus-10 rating in 67 games. He is also still a very key part of their penalty kill, so it would not be all that surprising if they extend him.
Taylor Raddysh
Raddysh has been a solid depth piece for the Capitals this season, posting 26 points and a plus-2 rating in 67 games this season. Overall, he has given them some decent secondary offensive production, so he could be another player they look to extend at an affordable cap hit.
