3 Winnipeg Jets Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout

The Winnipeg Jets made some moves to upgrade at the trade deadline as they are trying to go for it all this season. The team has a number of free agents to deal with after the season and lots of room to upgrade, which is likely what they will do. Here's a look at who won't be back next season.

Nikolaj Ehlers

Nikolaj Ehlers isn't only looking for more money on his next deal, the big selling point seems to be top line minutes. He isn't going to get that in Winnipeg with the line of Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and Gabriel Vilardi consistently working so well together. Ehlers has been great this season, recording 23 goals and 60 points in 62 games. The 29-year-old is going to get a big contract and it will be unfortunate for the Jets if they lose him.

Ville Heinola

Ville Heinola's injuries have held him back from being the player he could have been for the Jets. The team has had to maneuver around getting him more action in the NHL and it looks like he's bound to be traded after the season. The 24-year-old has only played 17 games this season and averaged just under 14 minutes per game. He's skilled and has been getting into games in the NHL since he was 18 years old. He just needs a change in scenery and the Jets will likely seriously look into that as he has another year left on his deal.

Mason Appleton

I think it's about time the Jets move on from Mason Appleton. He has taken a step back this season and has eight goals and 19 points in 60 games. The third line he's playing on has also been ice cold for a while and players on the fourth line have been more productive than him. With all the cap space the Jets have, they should be able to convince a free agent forward or two to join them and slot in on the wing in the middle-six to replace the upcoming free agent Appleton.
