Avalanche Sign Cale Makar’s Brother, Taylor Makar to 1-Yr Deal

The Colorado Avalanche just made a move that’s sure to excite fans—Taylor Makar, younger brother of superstar defenseman Cale Makar, has signed a one-year entry-level contract through the 2025-26 season!

The team confirmed the news Monday, and Taylor will first join the Colorado Eagles (AHL) on an Amateur Tryout (ATO) for the rest of the 2024-25 season.

The Avalanche couldn’t resist celebrating the family connection, posting on social media: “The only thing better than one Makar is two Makars.”

While Taylor, 24, may not (yet) be at his brother’s elite level, he’s proven he can light up the scoresheet. In his 2024-25 season with the University of Maine, he racked up 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists) in just 38 games—finishing tied for first in team goals and second in points, setting career highs in both categories.

But that’s not all—he also dominated with:

  •  An 8-point streak (7G, 1A) over six games (Jan. 18 – Feb. 14, 2025) – his longest ever
  •  Five multi-goal games, including a hat trick
  •  A two-goal performance in the Hockey East Championship (March 21)

Originally drafted by Colorado in the 7th round (220th overall) in 2021, Taylor’s hard work has finally paid off.

Now, the Avs have not one, but TWO Makars in the system—could this be the start of something special?

Stay tuned to see how Taylor’s pro journey begins!
