Boston Bruins Trade Charlie Coyle To Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche have acquired veteran center Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round pick from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt, forward prospect Will Zellers, and a second-round pick.
Coyle gives the Avalanche an experienced two-way center as they push toward the playoffs.
The 33-year-old has 15 goals and 22 points in 64 games this season and is in the fifth year of a six-year contract with a $5.25 million cap hit.
A first-round pick in 2010, Coyle has played 931 NHL games with the Minnesota Wild and Bruins, tallying 472 points. His playoff experience, which includes a run to the 2019 Stanley Cup Final with Boston, adds valuable depth to Colorado’s lineup.

For the Bruins, Mittelstadt represents a younger, offensively skilled forward who could benefit from a fresh start.
The 26-year-old had nine points in 11 playoff games last season after being acquired by Colorado from Buffalo in exchange for Bowen Byram. However, his production has dipped this season, with 11 goals and 34 points in 63 games.
Mittelstadt has two years remaining on his three-year, $17.25 million contract with a $5.75 million cap hit.
Along with Mittelstadt, Boston receives 18-year-old Will Zellers, a University of North Dakota commit, and a second-round pick, giving the team future assets as they reshape their roster.
Mittlestadt is a buy low candidate. But to get him AND a 2nd plus Zellers for a 33 year old Charlie Coyle is some borderline sorcery.

Boston, currently on the edge of the Eastern Conference playoff picture, has been active leading up to the deadline, previously sending Max Jones and Trent Frederic to Edmonton and Justin Brazeau to Minnesota.
