TRADE: Mikko Rantanen "Settling" For $12M AAV In Blockbuster Trade with Dallas
The latest reports indicate that Mikko Rantanen is "settling" for a $12 million AAV in a long-term extension with the Dallas Stars, as negotiations have gone on since the wee hours of the morning. It sounds like a Rantanen trade to Dallas is just about done.
An extensive back and forth about to end with the Dallas Stars acquiring and extending Mikko Rantanen. Not done, but I believe he’s settling for the $12 mil per as we’ve discussed.

As part of the deal, Rantanen will sign an 8-year, $12M AAV extension in Dallas, first reported by @FriedgeHNIC pic.twitter.com/v6DqIh5HCw
It's not 100% done yet, but both Darren Dreger and Elliotte Friedman are reporting it sounds like the two sides are just about there, for an eight-year, $12M AAV, completing a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.
That would $96M for #96.
The cost for Dallas is a pair of first rounders and 22-year-old former second rounder Logan Stankoven.

To #TexasHockey:
Mikko Rantanen - with 8-year extension in place
To #RaiseUp:
F Logan Stankoven
2026 1st Round Pick
2027 1st Round Pick
Plus smaller pieces.
In the end, after two trades for Carolina involving Rantanen, they give up Martin Necas, Jack Drury, a 2nd, and a 4th rounder, for Logan Stankoven, Taylor Hall, and two firsts.
Was it worth it? Safe to say, it doesn’t bring them any closer to a Stanley Cup.
For the Stars, they are likely the favorites in the West.
