Brock Boeser Responds To Canucks Admission of Lowball Trade Offers
With Brock Boeser a pending unrestricted free agent and no contract extension anywhere close between the two sides, what's the real reason that GM Patrik Allvin didn't trade the former 40-goal scorer at the deadline?
As he intimated at his availability on Friday, the trade offers coming in were feeble. “If I told you what I was offered for Brock Boeser, I think I would have to run out of here because you would not believe me,” Allvin told the media.
So how does Boeser feel about his GM depicting his trade value as being so low? Insider Elliotte Friedman relayed the following on Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night:
I'm sure Boeser wasn't happy with some of the things that were said... Any player wouldn't want to hear that said about them... I tried to get to the bottom of it, what happened there? And the thing is, the Vancouver Canucks indicated they wouldn't take anything less than a first-rounder, and they didn't get it so they decided to hold the player.
Was that what Allvin was referring to when he said no one would believe the offers he got? No first-round picks? It doesn't necessarily pass the smell test.
Canucks reporter Farhan Lalji added a bit more to the story, saying that Boeser "hasn't really processed all of it," and insisted that he "is trying not to read too much into it."
Boeser told me & @risingaction post game that he did read Allvin’s comments about the trade market for him & hasn’t really processed all of it. Reemphasized how loyal he has been to #Canucks over the years & was more focused being better in tonight’s game. Expects he’ll speak to…

For his part, Boeser also said that he is still open to an extension in Vancouver.
The two sides stalled when the Canucks wouldn't offer anything more than a five-year deal, while Boeser wanted something more in the seven- or eight-year range.
The 28-year-old has spent all nine of his NHL seasons in Vancouver, and has 18 goals and 38 points through 55 games this season, down from his 40-goal explosion last year. Aside from that, 29 was his career-high, back in his first full season in 2017-18.
