Bruins News: Insider Reveals Future of Interim Coach Joe Sacco

Interim head coach Joe Sacco took over the reins behind the Boston Bruins bench back in mid-November after the team fired bench boss Jim Montgomery in the midst of a chaotic and disappointing start to the season. Now,  Kevin Paul Dupont of The Boston Globe has revealed that Sacco's term behind the bench will end at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

The team hasn't really gotten it done this season under their long-time assistant Sacco, going just 22-22-6 since he took over. In fact, writes Dupont, the Bruins, with their .486 points percentage right now are in a shocking spot:

Boston is now closer to last place in the Eastern Conference (where the Buffalo Sabres reside) than they are to the second and final Wild Card spot, held by the Montreal Canadiens.

Dupont does suggest that Cam Neely and Don Sweeney will want to keep Sacco around in a different role, though that would totally depend on if said management team are still around. He says they would like to reward Sacco for his 11 years of service, but there's a chance that the team president and GM might not be holding on to their jobs, either.

It was only two seasons ago that the B's won the Presidents Trophy for compiling the top regular season record in hockey, when they finished with an astounding 135 points, going 65-12-5. From first overall to where they are today (7th place in the Atlantic, 30-32-9) in just two short years just doesn't sit well in Boston, where they demand excellence year after year.

Sacco was just named on a list of four NHL coaches who will likely be out of a job at season's end.
