Boston Bruins Sign Versatile Forward To Two-Way Deal

The Boston Bruins have made a savvy move by signing seasoned forward Tyler Pitlick to a two-way contract for the rest of the season, with a league-minimum cap hit of $775K.

Pitlick, who was previously on an AHL deal with the Providence Bruins, is expected to hit waivers today. If he clears, he’ll be assigned to Providence, making him eligible for the Calder Cup Playoffs while remaining a potential recall option for Boston as they gear up for the postseason push.

At 33 years old, Pitlick’s journey has been anything but ordinary. After a quiet offseason where a move overseas seemed likely, he instead landed a tryout with Providence in late September.

His stock had dipped following a tough 2022-23 campaign, where he cleared waivers with the Rangers and managed just 7 points in 22 AHL games with Hartford.

But Pitlick has turned things around in a big way with the P-Bruins this season. The 6’2” forward has been a key contributor for Providence, tying for fourth on the team in scoring with 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists) in 43 games, while also leading the team’s forwards with a stellar +17 rating.

With Trent Frederic traded earlier this week and more roster moves likely before tomorrow’s deadline, the Bruins are opening up opportunities for depth players like Pitlick to step up.

Pitlick, who has played both center and wing, brings a wealth of experience to the table. Over his 10-year NHL career, he’s suited up for eight different teams, amassing 109 points in 420 games since being drafted by Edmonton in the second round of the 2010 draft.
