Canucks' GM Rejected Multiple Trade Offers on Boeser, Pettersson
It wasn't for a lack of trying. Vancouver Canucks' GM Patrik Allvin was open to moving both Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson ahead of Friday's NHL trade deadline, but the offers that were presented almost offended the Canucks' executive.
Allvin spoke to the media late Friday afternoon and opened up about the eye-opening deadline day:
“Yeah, definitely was an interesting market with some of the moves here. The biggest reason I felt that we didn’t do any moves here today was [that] there was not a whole lot of market return on our players. Unfortunately, that didn’t really make sense for [us]. [There’s] 21 games left, and every single one is going to be a playoff game. It’s just going to get harder and harder, and we’re going to continue with the next game and talent here. Great to see some of the younger players getting an opportunity here to be part of this stretch run here as well. They earned it and deserved to be part of this.”
Boeser is a pending unrestricted free agent who has come out publicly about how frustrated the season has been, especially since there's been no contact from Allvin to his agent regarding a contract extension. Meanwhile, Pettersson's confidence is shot, he's become quite annoyed with the media in Vancouver, and this was the last year on his contract where he didn't have a no-movement clause. His NMC now kicks in July 1, 2025.
The Canucks have won two straight games and entering Saturday's action have a one point lead, sitting in the second wild-card position in the Western Conference. Pettersson scored on Friday after he wasn't traded, so perhaps he can turn a corner down the stretch of the season, knowing he isn't going anywhere at this point.
