Dallas Stars Sign Wyatt Johnston To Big Extension
The Dallas Stars have signed 21-year-old forward Wyatt Johnston to a five-year, $42 million contract extension, carrying an average annual value of $8.4 million.
Johnston, who was set to become a restricted free agent this summer, has been a key piece for Dallas since making the team as a 19-year-old in 2022.
He has 23 goals and 59 points in 62 games this season and has totaled 79 goals and 165 points in 226 career NHL games.
"Wyatt has been a difference-maker for us since day one," Stars GM Jim Nill said. "He's a big part of our present and future, and we're thrilled to keep him in Dallas."

This signing comes as part of a busy trade deadline for the Stars, who also made a blockbuster move to acquire star forward Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Dallas sent top prospect Logan Stankoven and two first-round picks to land Rantanen, then signed him to an eight-year, $96 million extension.
Rantanen has 27 goals and 70 points this season between Colorado and Carolina. The Stars also added veteran forwards Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci from San Jose in February, reinforcing their roster for a deep playoff run.

Johnston, who had 10 goals and 16 points in 19 playoff games last year, is expected to play a crucial role as the Stars push for the Stanley Cup.
"We believe in what we're building here," Nill said. "With Wyatt locked in long-term and the pieces we've added, we're excited for what’s ahead."
