Devils Sign Another of Luke Hughes' Former College Teammates
After being selected five years ago by the New Jersey Devils, his signing rights were set to expire on August 15th. But 22-year-old senior out of the University of Michigan Ethan Edwards has finally been signed to an entry-level contract by the team, and will join two familiar faces in the Devils organization.

Devils president/GM Tom Fitzgerald also announced that Edwards will sign an American Hockey League Standard Player Contract for the remainder of the 2024-25 season and report to Utica.
The 5'11" defenseman recorded 21 points on five goals and 16 assists in 36 games in his senior season this year, seeing his ice time flourish after fellow D-man Seamus Casey departed after last season. Casey was a second-round selection by New Jersey in 2022, and emerged with the team at the NHL level for a short time earlier this season.
Edwards was also a teammate of current Devils star defender Luke Hughes, who was taken with the 4th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Edwards went in the fourth round, 120th overall, to the Devils in 2020. Now, after two straight years of watching his former Wolverines mates sign their pro contracts with New Jersey, he has finally done the same.
Edwards is an easy guy to root for.

Here's my one-on-one with him over the summer, where he explained why he was ready for an increased role with Michigan following key departures.
