Flames Rumors: Dan Vladar will be traded by Calgary ahead of deadline
The Calgary Flames have a goaltending of the now, and the future in Dustin Wolf, and with Dan Vladar being a pending unrestricted free agent, look for Calgary GM Craig Conroy to cash in on his 'rental' ahead of the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
Vladar, 27, is owed $2.2 million this season, and while his numbers haven't been stellar this season, Vladar may be the best goaltending option on the trade market for contending teams looking for some depth. The Flames have Devin Cooley in the minors, who is tearing it up also, so there's no need for concern in Calgary's crease moving forward.
Vladar has posted an 8-11-5 record on the year, with a 2.98 goals against average. He was recently suggested by Daily Faceoff's Steven Ellis as a prime trade candidate for a team looking for help in net:
The trade deadline is rarely the right time to trade for a goalie, and that isn’t different this time around. Vladar’s name has been in the rumor mill for a few years now, and with Dustin Wolf playing so well, this might finally be the end of an era for the Czech keeper in Alberta. He’s a pending UFA on a $2.2 million hit, and while his numbers aren’t spectacular, he has often been given the harder starts this season. If a team needs some extra goaltending insurance, Vladar could be a nice pickup without having to sacrifice many assets. The Flames could easily hang on to Vladar and keep him for the stretch run, but getting something back for the pending UFA would likely be preferred.
The Flames enter Sunday's action with a 28-23-8 record, one point behind the second wild-card spot in the West.
