'I Don't Agree With The Calls': Matt Rempe Speaks On How Refs Are Targeting Him
The latest incident came in Thursday’s 3-2 overtime win against the Minnesota Wild when Rempe was called for interference on Devin Shore, despite replays showing Shore skated into him. "It’s frustrating, for sure," Rempe said. "The guy just ran into me. I know I’m a big guy who plays a physical game, but I think I’m playing really well. I’m not going to let it deter me."
The call led to a Minnesota power-play goal, fueling frustration among Rangers fans and teammates.

“It’s frustrating, for sure. I don’t agree with the calls on that. That one last night, the guy just ran into me…I know I’m a big guy who plays a physical game and stuff, it’s unfortunate… I’m just trying to play my game,…
This wasn't the first questionable penalty against Rempe. On Tuesday against Winnipeg, he was called for goaltender interference after Winnipeg Jets forward Morgan Barron pushed him into Connor Hellebuyck.
Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette has defended his player, calling the calls against Rempe unfair. "The size of him, the way he plays the game, it just draws attention," Laviolette said. "It’s unfortunate because sometimes, like tonight, he’s not really doing anything and he’s in the box."
The Rangers have reportedly addressed their concerns with the league, hoping for more consistency in officiating.

Since returning from suspension earlier this season, Rempe has improved his discipline while still playing a physical, forechecking style.
He has five points and 52 penalty minutes in 31 games while ranking among the league leaders in hits per 60 minutes. "I’m going to be physical every game," Rempe said. "But my game has to lead with speed and physicality. If I start going around and trying to be cautious, that’s not me. That’s not my game."
As the Rangers push toward the playoffs, they hope officials will give their enforcer a fairer shake.
