Insider: Brad Marchand Trade Would See 'Significant' Return Heading to Boston

The Boston Bruins are closer than ever to trading captain Brad Marchand, after contract extension talks to a turn for the worse recently. While Marchand's currently hurt but is expected back before the Stanley Cup Playoffs, any trade GM Don Sweeney makes including Marchand is going to see a hefty package heading back to Boston.

Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli was a guest on the 24-hour What Chaos trade deadline show with DJ Bean and Pete Blackburn, and somehow managed to keep it together and report on a expected trade:

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman also reported on Marchand early Friday morning and had this to say:

Brad Marchand. We never thought we’d see the day, but it is possible the Bruins move him. He might not be back until right before the playoffs, which could mean a more conditional-style return, but there was lots of noise around him on Thursday. There are a few different ways this could go. Extension talks hit a stalemate — with the reminder one call can change everything.

Marchand, 36, is a pending UFA with a $6.1 million cap hit this season, and owns a eight-team no-trade clause. There was some speculation brewing he'd be heading to Colorado, but after they acquired Brock Nelson that killed those trade talks.

TSN's Chris Johnston reported the Bruins are expected to move Marchand to a Western Conference team.
