Insider Provides Big Trade Talks Update On Kraken's Brandon Tanev
Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev is a notable trade candidate as we continue to inch closer to the 2025 NHL trade deadline. With Tanev being a pending unrestricted free agent and the Kraken not holding a playoff spot, he is expected to be moved.
Now, a big update has been provided on the Tanev trade talks. According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Kraken are willing to retain half of Tanev's $3.5 million cap hit in a potential move.
LeBrun also reported that the Kraken forward is getting interest from both contenders and bubble teams.
Hearing that the Kraken are willing to eat 50 percent on Brandon Tanev’s $3.5M cap hit to help facilitate a deal. Which makes sense. Strong interest from both Cup contenders and bubble teams in the pending UFA winger.

Hearing that the Kraken are willing to retain half of Tanev's salary is understandable. Doing this will help the return that they receive in a Tanev trade, so it would be a smart decision by the Kraken. This is especially so when noting that his contract expires at the end of the season.
Furthermore, Kraken's willingness to retain 50% of Tanev's salary should only increase the number of suitors he has from here. Playoff teams love players like Tanev, as he provides plenty of energy and plays a very heavy game.
In 59 games this season with the Kraken, Tanev has nine goals, 17 points, 91 blocks, and 120 hits. We will need to wait and see where Tanev ends up getting flipped from here.
