Tanev is a good bottom-6 player that will really make a difference in the playoffs for the Jets who are competing with powerhouses in the Dallas Stars and Colorado in the division this season. The 33-year-old has a cap hit of $3.5 million AAV and is a UFA after the season.
In his ninth season in the league, Tanev has nine goals and 17 points in 60 games while logging just under 14 minutes of ice time per game. His big selling features are his tenacity, puck retrieving, two-way play, and physicality. The veteran has 91 blocked shots and 122 hits this season.
Tanev has received Selke Trophy votes three times in his career and should slot in on the fourth line for the deep Jets. He has 131 minutes killing penalties this season and over 1150 in his career. There is some playoff experience coming in with this addition too as he has 46 games played in the playoffs while scoring seven goals, 14 points, and a massive 170 hits. This is a solid add for Winnipeg this season.
