Marchand Injury Update + 2 Teams Who "Won't Go Away" in Trade Talks
The Boston Bruins have announced that captain Brad Marchand's upper body injury will keep him out "week to week."
Brad Marchand out “week-to-week” with an upper body injury, per Joe Sacco. Another major blow to a Bruins team leaking oil down the stretch here

Officially, he'll be re-evaluated again next week, and they'll go from there, according to Pierre LeBrun. This news might push the Bruins into more of a seller mode, and doesn't completely eliminate the chances of a Marchand trade.
Certainly, teams would have to do their due diligence on what exactly the prognosis is on Marchand's injury, but there are some persistent suitors who have been pestering the Bruins trying to see if they can pry the master 'pest' away for a playoff run. It's not like teams don't know what they're getting in the 36-year-old, 16-year veteran who has one Stanley Cup ring, 56 playoff goals and 138 points in 157 career postseason games.
As long as "week to week" doesn't turn into "month to month", it's still quite possible that he could be back in time for the playoffs, which are still six weeks away. And that's all contenders would need him for.
According to Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos:
(Marchand) publicly remains adamant that he wants to remain a Bruin, but I keep hearing teams like Vegas and Colorado won’t go away.
For Vegas, as Kypreos's colleague Ryan Dixon noted, the team "fills a type of villain role in the league" and Marchand matches that reputation to a T. Remember, the Golden Knights added a similarly gritty player in Ivan Barbashev at the 2023 deadline, and he went on to be a key contributor in their Stanley Cup run with 18 points in 22 playoff games.
In Colorado, where Gabriel Landeskog is clearly not coming to the rescue this season (or maybe ever), adding a player like Marchand would be the perfect fit as the team looks to add up front after their recent acquisition of defenceman Ryan Lindgren from the New York Rangers.
Another report on Tuesday suggests that the Bruins would make Marchand available, and names the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers as other potential suitors.
But moving on from Marchand at the deadline wouldn't necessarily be the end of his tenure in Boston, as Kypreos noted.
"(A trade would allow) GM Don Sweeney to get some much-needed assets back. This could also leave the door open to Marchand re-signing with the Bruins again in the off-season as a free agent."
