Evans had been a big name in the rumor mill over the last several months, and trade chatter only escalated with the deadline being this week. However, instead of the Canadiens forward being dealt to a contender, he will be staying put in Montreal after landing this nice new extension from the Habs.
Evans certainly has earned this great payday from the Canadiens, as he has had an excellent 2024-25 season. In 61 games this season, the Toronto, Ontario native has 12 goals, 16 assists, and 28 points. With these numbers, he needs just two more goals, one more assist, and two more points to set new career highs offensively. He also has been making a big impact with physicality, as he has a career-best 93 hits already this campaign.
Evans going off the board is certainly a tough blow for contenders looking to improve their bottom six and penalty kill before the deadline. Evans was one of the top bottom-six forwards available for the taking, but he is now off the board.
It will be fascinating to see how much of an impact he can make for the Canadiens after landing this great new contract extension from here.
