Soucy had been in the rumor mill over the last several weeks as the Canucks continue to shake up their roster. Now, the left-shot defenseman is heading to the Rangers, where he should be a key part of their blueline moving forward.
The Rangers bringing in Soucy is pretty understandable. It is no secret that they have been looking to add to their blueline. In addition, after dealing pending unrestricted free agent Ryan Lindgren, they specifically needed a left-shot shutdown defenseman. They have now gotten just that with Soucy.
When looking at the Rangers' current left side, Soucy stands a pretty good shot of playing top-four minutes. In addition, due to this defense-first style of play, he will provide the Rangers with another option to consider for their penalty kill.
Soucy, 30, will also be more than a rental for the Rangers. This is because he is signed until the completion of the 2025-26 season, carrying a $3.25 million cap hit.
In 59 games this season, Soucy has three goals, 10 points, 86 hits, 92 blocks, and a minus-13 rating. Overall, it has been a bit of a tough campaign for the seven-year veteran, but he now has the opportunity of a fresh start in New York.
