Heiskanen has not played since the club's Jan. 28 contest against the Vegas Golden Knights. During that matchup, Heiskanen suffered a knee injury following a collision with Golden Knights captain Mark Stone. Following this, Heiskanen underwent knee surgery, where he was listed as month-to-month.
After receiving surgery, the hope was that Heisknanen would be good to return in the late stages of the regular season or at the start of the playoffs. However, with this latest update from DeBoer, the possibility of him not being ready for the start of the playoffs is there.
It would undoubtedly be a massive blow for the Stars if Heiskanen is not given the green light to return for the start of the playoffs. The 25-year-old is their best defenseman, so they would have a major challenge without him in the lineup in the first round.
In 50 games this season with the Stars, Heiskanen has five goals, 25 points, and a plus-7 rating. This is after he had nine goals, 54 points, and a plus-8 rating in 71 games this past season.
We will now need to wait and see what happens with Heiskanen once the playoffs start from here.
