NHL Rumors: Utah HC's New Team Name Leaked?
The Utah Hockey Club may have inadvertently tipped its hand regarding the team's permanent name.
On the same day the final round of in-person fan voting wrapped at the Delta Center, Uyte LLC—responsible for filing all name trademarks on behalf of the team—secured a trademark extension for "Utah Mammoth."
While trademarks for “Utah Outlaws” and “Utah Hockey Club” remain active, only Mammoth and the generic "Utah Hockey Club" received recent extensions, with Outlaws' deadline not arriving until early April.
The timing of the Mammoth extension has fueled speculation that it could be the name the franchise ultimately chooses.

As of February 4, 2025, the Utah Mammoth trademark was extended by the same firm responsible for all the previous #UtahHC nicknames.

Although the team hasn't confirmed anything, the pieces seem to align.
During fan voting in January and early February, Mammoth emerged as the favorite in arena polls and online surveys, garnering around 70% of the vote. “We have such faith in the fanbase here and the people of Utah,” said Smith Entertainment Group executive Mike Maughan, referring to the club’s uniquely open branding process.
The name “Yeti,” once seen as a fan favorite, was abandoned due to trademark issues with Yeti Coolers. To compensate, the team introduced a mythical snow creature concept into the Mammoth and Utah HC branding, signaling a possible thematic pivot that still embraces fan sentiment.

Team President Chris Armstrong says the organization remains on track to reveal the name ahead of the 2025-26 season.
“Every day we get closer, but not there yet,” he told KSL. Still, fans and media are reading between the lines. The fact that Mammoth received renewed trademark attention while Yeti, Blizzard, and Venom were dropped suggests it could be the direction the franchise is headed.
