NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Teams Linked To Islanders' Kyle Palmieri

The New York Islanders have engaged in trade discussions involving Kyle Palmieri ahead of Friday’s 3 p.m. ET deadline, with the Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, and Vancouver Canucks emerging as potential suitors, according to The Fourth Period

Palmieri, 34, has 41 points (20 goals, 21 assists) in 60 games and has been one of the Islanders’ most consistent forwards. While there is mutual interest in an extension, the growing trade market could push general manager Lou Lamoriello toward a deal, especially after the team’s recent struggles (4 wins in their last 10 games).

The Islanders’ ability to retain salary makes Palmieri an attractive option for cap-strapped contenders, and he is expected to fetch at least a second-round pick, with some teams possibly including a mid-level prospect.

The Kings, searching for a right-shot winger, view Palmieri as a strong fit and have also expressed interest in Buffalo’s Alex Tuch.

Los Angeles may require the Islanders to retain salary or include a roster player like defenseman Jordan Spence to balance a deal.

The Avalanche, always aggressive at the deadline, are looking to strengthen their forward depth as they sit in a wild-card spot.

Vancouver, pushing for a deep playoff run, has also been monitoring Palmieri as a potential addition to solidify their top-nine forward group. Palmieri’s recent form—four goals in his last five games—has only increased his appeal.

“As a group, we’re disappointed in ourselves,” Palmieri said following Monday’s loss. “What kind of message that sends to whoever is what it is.”

With three salary retention slots available, the Islanders have the flexibility to facilitate a trade, particularly with teams like the Kings, who have limited cap space.

The decision on Palmieri’s future may also be influenced by whether the Islanders move Brock Nelson, another pending UFA drawing interest from multiple contenders.
