NHL Trade Rumors: Red Wings Linked to 3 Forwards

The Detroit Red Wings are searching for a center ahead of the 2025 NHL trade deadline after Andrew Copp’s season-ending pectoral surgery and Michael Rasmussen’s upper-body injury left them thin down the middle.

With $14 million in cap space after trading Ville Husso, GM Steve Yzerman is expected to make a move. Bob Duff of Detroit Hockey Now reports that Ryan O’Reilly, Brayden Schenn, and Ryan Strome have emerged as possible targets as the Red Wings look to solidify their roster for a playoff push.

O’Reilly, a Stanley Cup champion and Conn Smythe winner, brings leadership, defensive reliability, and strong faceoff numbers.

The 34-year-old has two years left at $4.5 million AAV, making him an attractive option if Detroit commits to a win-now move.

"He's a prototypical No. 2 center, just what Detroit needs," Duff writes, though the Predators are not in a hurry to move him

Schenn, a key member of the St. Louis Blues’ 2019 Cup-winning team, has three years left at $6.5 million AAV and would provide a strong two-way presence behind Dylan Larkin

“Schenn will be coveted by top NHL teams,” Duff adds, noting that his full no-trade clause could complicate a deal.

Strome, currently Anaheim’s top center, would be a middle-six fit for Detroit.

The 31-year-old has 35 points in 59 games this season and two years left at $5 million AAV. He has performed well against the Red Wings, and Duff notes that he “chips in offense while providing reliable play in all situations.”
