NHLTR Mock Trade: Flyers Deal Scott Laughton to the Winnipeg Jets
The Philadelphia Flyers enter Saturday's action with a record of 26-26-8 record, six points out of a playoff spot. GM Daniel Briere is in a tough spot as there's been plenty of interest in Scott Laughton, however the team doesn't want to take a giant step backwards as they look to close in on a playoff spot.
Laughton has recorded 27 points in 57 games and is known for his fierce competitive spirit, solid two-way play, and a mentality that's meant for playoff hockey. Laughton has one season left on his deal, at just $3 million, so there's plenty of teams who could fit in the third-line center on their books. However, look out for the Winnipeg Jets, as they're highlighted in our latest NHLTR mock trade.
NHLTR Mock Trade: Flyers trade Laughton to the Winnipeg Jets for Rasmus Kupari, Ville Heinola, and a 2025 first-round pick.
The Flyers don't have to take a major step back with moving Laughton, so this deal would give them a chance to plug-and-play both Kupari in their bottom six and Heinola into a depth role, with an opportunity to win more minutes. The 2025 first-rounder gives them a lottery ticket towards the end of the first round of the draft.
Laughton would give the Jets another tough opponent in their top-nine and someone who can play a lot of different roles, for one of the best teams in hockey.
Keep an eye on these two teams, they are emerging as trade partners before March 7. As for Laughton, certainly feels like he may of had his last supper with his Flyers' teammates:
