'Outlandish' Mock Trade Proposal Emerges Involving Canucks & Rangers

An outlandish trade proposal involving the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks is making the rounds on social media, and fans from both sides are sounding off.

The deal suggests the Rangers send star winger Artemi Panarin, along with Arthur Kaliyev and a fifth-round pick, to Vancouver in exchange for Elias Pettersson, Nils Höglander, and a second-round pick.

The chatter was sparked after The Athletic’s Peter Baugh wrote that New York may need to move big names if they want to truly contend.

The proposed swap has drawn plenty of skepticism, especially given the publicized tension between Pettersson and Canucks teammate J.T. Miller.

"If not for the drama that took place this season in Vancouver, maybe there’s a chance,” one article quipped, doubting the Rangers would take the risk of reuniting the duo in New York.

Others argue the Canucks would need to sweeten the pot—possibly by replacing the second-rounder with a first and including top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki—to even get a conversation started.

Still, many view the idea as lopsided, particularly with Panarin still performing as the Rangers’ most consistent forward.

“Chris Kreider is the most obvious candidate,” Baugh said, “but Drury already showed a willingness to entertain offers on both Kreider and Jacob Trouba earlier in the year.”

While that’s opened the door for fans and analysts to speculate wildly, this particular scenario has most observers shaking their heads.

As one post bluntly put it: “If I had my choice, I’m sticking with Breadman.”
