Panthers Acquire Seth Jones From Blackhawks In Big Trade

The Florida Panthers have acquired defenseman Seth Jones and a 2026 fourth-round pick from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for goaltender Spencer Knight and a conditional 2026 first-round pick. The Blackhawks also announced that they will retain 26% of Jones' salary.

Jones, 30, had been open about wanting to be traded to a contender, and now he has gotten his wish. He will now be an important part of the Panthers' blueline as they look to repeat as Stanley Cup champions this spring.

The Panthers have missed offseason departure Brandon Montour on the right side of their defense this season. Now, they have finally found a solid right-shot offensive defenseman to replace him in their top four with Jones.

Jones appeared in 42 games this season with the Blackhawks before this trade, where he had seven goals and 27 points. Now, he will look to make a big impact with the Panthers from here.

The Blackhawks, on the other hand, have acquired a former first-round pick and young goalie in Knight. In 21 games this season, the 23-year-old netminder has a 12-8-1 record, a .907 save percentage, and a 2.40 goals-against average. He should now have a more significant role on the rebuilding Blackhawks from here.
