Penguins Could Receive Interest In Jarry After Late-Season Bounce-Back
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had another bad season minus a few players. Starting goalie Tristan Jarry was one of the players having a poor season and it got him sent down to the minors to figure out his game. He has been consistently good throughout his career, so this should be chalked up as an anomaly on a bad team as the other goalies aren't doing well either.
Jarry is still signed for four more years at $5.365 million AAV, so buying him out this soon into his contract isn't a great option. His play since being recalled has changed the narrative though.
Jarry is 12-9-4 with a 3.13 GAA and .894 SV% on the season through 27 games, but since being called back up and thrown in net, he is 4-1-0, has allowed 12 total goals, and has a .928 SV%. He has even added an assist. If Jarry finished the season the way he has been playing, there's a possibility that other teams could take a chance on him. Whether he just needed a reset or actually needs a fresh start in front of a better defensive team, there will be teams searching for goaltending help and the Penguins still have Alex Nedeljkovic and Joel Blomqvist to ride with moving forward.
The Penguins are in a spot where they don't want to tear everything down while Sidney Crosby and company are still there, but have amassed a lot of draft capital and aren't winning despite moves made over the last two seasons.
Jarry is a good goalie and I believe he could do well on a better team, whether that be as a 1a or 1b goalie. We'll have to wait and see if he continues to help the Penguins win over the last month of the season and if there is actually interest if so.
