Desharnais, 28, was just traded by the Vancouver Canucks to the Penguins back on Jan. 31 as a part of the Marcus Pettersson deal. Now, after just over a month with the Penguins, Desharnais is on the move again and has become a Shark.
Desharnais appeared in 10 games with the Penguins, where he had zero points, 19 hits, 20 blocks, and a minus-4 rating. This is after he had three assists, 54 hits, and a minus-5 rating in 34 games with the Canucks.
With this move, the Sharks have added a right-shot defenseman with size to their defensive group. When looking at the Sharks' current defensive group, Desharnais has a pretty good shot of being a regular in their lineup.
Desharnais will also be more than a rental for the Sharks, as he has a $2 million cap hit until the completion of the 2025-26 season.
Desharnais has appeared in 158 career NHL games over three seasons split between the Edmonton Oilers, Canucks, and Penguins. During them, he has posted one goal, 19 points, 238 blocks, 253 hits, and a plus-9 rating. It will be intriguing to see how much of an impact he can with the Sharks from here.
