Previously Unknown No-Move Clause Revealed for Oilers Ahead of Deadline
In a surprising revelation on Monday morning, just four days ahead of the trade deadline, we've learned that Viktor Arvidsson has a previously unknown no-move clause in the contract he signed with the Edmonton Oilers last summer.
In Edmonton, discovered Viktor Arvidsson has a NMC…so that’s critical to fit into any conversation about him

For the Oilers fans who were maybe talking about moving him, and I think the Oilers might be looking into it too, there’s something that popped up that I don’t think any of us realized:Arvidsson has a no move clause... he does have control over the situation. That’s something I didn’t realize until recently. I’m sure the Oilers knew about it, but all of us and the general public, we didn’t really know about it.But I think the bigger issue might be the next year at $4-million. He’s got one more year and that may be a challenge for some teams. That’s another thing the Oilers and Arvidsson will have to work through if they do want to move him.
This revelation, of course, changes the dynamic of any potential thoughts the Oilers had of moving Arvidsson out in any trades.
The 31-year-old has not been a good fit this season with Edmonton, with just seven goals and 19 points in 45 games, well off his pace with the LA Kings for the previous three seasons when he was a two-time 20-goal scorer, and was on pace for a third straight until injury sidelined him for much of 2023-24.
His disappointing output this season looks even worse when you consider he's spent plenty of time on a line with Leon Draisaitl, who merely leads the NHL in goals.
We also learned over the weekend that the Oilers are looking to trade Evander Kane and his $5.125 million cap hit. He has reportedly submitted his trade list and there are some contenders on the list. When he returns from his season-long injury absence is still unknown, however. He hopes to be back before the end of the regular season.
