Price Tag Revealed for Sharks' Defenseman Mario Ferraro

Holding one of the top defenseman remaining on the trade market as the time ticks towards the 3pm Eastern deadline, the San Jose Sharks have set a healthy price tag for anybody interested in Mario Ferraro.

The well-liked D-man blocks shots, kills penalties, and throws his 6-foot, 210-pound frame around. He has another year remaining on a reasonable $3.25 million cap hit.

Per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, the Sharks have placed a premium of a first-round pick, "plus", on Ferraro. Peng indicates that from his canvassing around sources throughout the league, the consensus is that price is a bit too steep, even indicating that "it feels like a second-plus is already considered an overpay."

Ferraro, though, is only 26, will easily fit into any locker room, and can slot in on the second or third pairing. In 64 games, he already has 100 blocked shots plus 135 hits, while getting an average of 21:00 minutes of ice time per night.

The Colorado Avalanche were reportedly interested in Ferraro, but opted instead for Ryan Lindgren from the NY Rangers, who they were able to get for a lesser price than the Sharks' ask.

San Jose has already dealt off several players, including Jake Walman, Nico Sturm, Vitek Vanecek, and earlier in the year, Mackenzie Blackwood, Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci.
