Report: 5 Teams Pursuing Brock Nelson, But Extension Also in the Works

Brock Nelson is amongst the top scorers in demand at the trade deadline, but is the pending UFA going to be traded? Sources say that New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello was still working on an extension with the 33-year-old lifelong Islander, but with a number of teams making strong pitches, insider Pierre LeBrun says it could be leaning towards a trade being more likely.

LeBrun lists five teams as notable pursuers of the nine-time 20-goal scorer:

  • Minnesota Wild
  • Winnipeg Jets
  • New Jersey Devils
  • Colorado Avalanche
  • Toronto Maple Leafs

All of these teams, and there are others as well, are looking for a notable scoring boost for their top six. How much are they willing to surrender for a rental like Nelson?
Insider David Pagnotta also reports that an extension offer has been presented to Nelson, while also noting that trade offers have come in that have included a first-rounder and more.

After the Islanders' victory over the Jets on Tuesday, Nelson's post game interview sure sounded like a goodbye, but with Lamoriello, nobody can ever be sure.

He scored his 20th goal of the season in that game, following three consecutive seasons in the mid-to-high 30s.

In 901 career games, Nelson has 295 goals and 574 points with a +9 rating.
