Report: Bruins "Still Open" To Trading Brad Marchand

The Boston Bruins have begun a freefall, with one win in their last eight games, and with Trent Frederic already out the door, it's expected more will follow by Friday's 3pm deadline. Will captain Brad Marchand be amongst that group?

After trade talk around the lifelong Bruin and pending UFA died down after his significant injury was announced this past week, it's perking back up again.  To the point that insider Chris Johnston said on TSN Insider Trading that it's a "real possibility":

"At this point in time, there's no confirmation he's going to be traded. But the feeling, league-wide, is that he very much is likely to be moved by the Bruins at some point to the West.

"It does feel like it's moving toward a Marchand deal."

Johnston clarifies that extension talks are still on the table as well.

Bruins beat writer Jimmy Murphy follows up that report to say that he was also aware that the Bruins are listening, but that, "a.) teams are wary of the upper-body injury, and b.) Bruins will not do it unless Marchand is 100% on board, which, to this point, he's not."

The 16-year veteran is labeled week-to-week with his current injury, but a re-evaluation is expected next week. This shouldn't really stop a contending team from acquiring Marchand, as even if he's not back until the playoffs, it's not like teams don't know what they're getting in the feisty forward.

But whether Marchand agrees to head elsewhere is another issue altogether, and a bridge that still must crossed for any interested parties. “My goal is to play here forever,” he said last month.

Marchand, 36, has 21 goals and 47 points in 61 games this season, his 12th straight season with 20+ goals.
