Report: Canucks' Carson Soucy's Trade Market Heating Up

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy is one of the more notable blueliners who could find a new home by the 2025 NHL trade deadline. The Pacific Division club has been looking to move him, and things are getting more serious on that front.

According to NHL insider Darren Dreger, trade interest in Soucy is picking up now that fellow left-shot shutdown defenseman Brian Dumoulin has been traded to the New Jersey Devils.

"New Jersey lands Dumoulin, so a chip comes off the table. Interest is growing around Canucks veteran Carson Soucy," Dreger said. "He has trade protection and it hasn't reached that point yet, but a lot of teams are calling."

It is understandable that Soucy is generating interest with the deadline rapidly approaching. Playoff clubs always value big defensemen who play a heavy game, and Soucy fits that description. In addition, it also does not hurt that he kills penalties and can play both sides if needed.

Soucy, 30, would be more than a rental for any club looking to acquire him. This is because he is signed until the end of next season, carrying a $3.25 million cap hit. He also has a full no-trade clause this season, meaning he would need to give the green light for any potential trade.

It will be fascinating to see if this increasing interest in Soucy leads to him finding a new home by the March 7 deadline. In 59 games this season with the Canucks, the 6-foot-5 blueliner has three goals, 10 points, 86 hits, and 92 blocks.
