Report: Colorado Avalanche Trading Casey Mittelstadt Still A Possibility

The Colorado Avalanche made a big move on March 6, acquiring Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders. With this, the Avalanche have landed a much-needed upgrade for their second-line center spot. However, they might not be done yet.

According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, Avalanche forward Casey Mittelstadt could still be in play, and noted that it's easier to move him now that they have acquired Nelson.

"Yes, he could [still be in play], Seravalli said on the What Chaos! podcast. "Without a doubt. The Brock Nelson deal gives them the comfort and flexibility to do so if they want... Acquiring Brock Nelson makes it easier to trade Casey Mittelstadt, if you find the right fit."

Mittelstadt, 26, has been the subject of trade rumors for much of this season. The chatter surrounding him only picked up with the deadline just about here, and the Nelson trade does make things more interesting. If they want to improve their roster elsewhere, Mittelstadt could be a valuable trade piece for them to work with.

Mittelstadt has also had some trouble finding his fit with the Avalanche. In 63 games this season, he has 11 goals, 34 points, and a minus-12 rating. However, when noting he had at least 57 points in each of his two previous seasons and is in his prime, he could generate a lot of interest at the deadline.

We will need to wait and see if Mittelstadt ends up being dealt by the deadline from here.
