Report: Devils "Poised to Make An Impact Trade"

The New Jersey Devils could use an offensive boost at the trade deadline. With the lowest number of goals scored among the top six playoff teams in the Eastern Conference, it's pretty certain they'll be looking to add a goal scorer.

And with their up-and-down play of late, James Murphy of rg.org has been told by an NHL executive that the Devils are going to do more than that... They are looking to make an "impact trade":

They’re going for it, that’s for sure.

I’m hearing they’d really like to add a rugged, scoring, playoff-type guy into their top-6 and also add more depth on defense. With the way they’ve been playing heading into and coming out of the break, I think you’ll see Fitz [New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald] do something soon, maybe even by Monday.

Yet another executive reached out this weekend to say, “Watch out for the Devils, man. They’re all in!”

Jake Evans of the Montreal Canadiens is thought to be one of their prime targets, and while he can add the guts and defensive play they might like, one would think that they'd be aiming higher as well if an "all-in", "impact" move is to come.

Names like Brock Nelson and Brock Boeser come to mind.

With only $1.4 million in cap space, however, they'll need to move out some salary in order to pull off something more notable like that, as Boeser has a $6.65 million cap hit, and Nelson's is $6 million.
