Report: Edmonton Oilers Not Done Making Trades

The Edmonton Oilers made a notable move on March 4, acquiring Trent Frederic and Max Jones from the Boston Bruins. Seeing the Oilers add to their roster is not surprising, as they have a 35-22-4 record and are among the top teams in the Western Conference.

However, the expectation is that the Oilers are not done making moves yet. On the latest episode of TSN's Insider Trading, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the Oilers are looking to improve their blueline.

"The priority is D," LeBrun said about the Oilers. "They've been spending all day looking at the D market... They're in a bad way right now. They're playing their worst hockey of the season, and this is a time that's really dangerous. 48 hours out to make a trade that you regret. I think Stan Bowman is trying to keep his cool here, and I think he will. Yes, they need a defenseman, but even though a lot of people want to see him go trade for a goalie, I don't believe that's a priority for the organization.

Hearing that the Oilers want to bring in a defenseman is entirely understandable. When looking at their current group, it is clear that they could use another experienced blueliner that can play big minutes. This is especially so when noting that they have lost six out of their last seven games.

The trade market still has plenty of defensemen available, so the Oilers have options to consider. Some of the names who have been creating chatter in the rumor mill leading up to the deadline include Mario Ferraro, Brian Dumoulin, Jamie Oleksiak, Brandon Carlo, and David Savard.

It will be very interesting to see if the Oilers can bring in another defender before the deadline from here.
