Report: Flyers "Reluctant" To Move Scott Laughton

The Philadelphia Flyers remain reluctant to trade Scott Laughton despite strong interest from multiple teams, according to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic

TSN’s Darren Dreger previously reported that the Flyers are asking for a first-round pick or a top prospect in return, but sources within the organization suggest general manager Danny Brière is hesitant to move the 30-year-old alternate captain.

With Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost already gone, Laughton’s leadership has become even more important in the locker room.

Defenseman Nick Seeler emphasized his impact, saying, “Laughty means a lot to every guy in here. Ever since I came here, he’s been one of those guys you can rely on, on and off the ice.” While Brière is listening to offers, he isn’t actively shopping Laughton, knowing his departure could affect team morale.

Toronto and Winnipeg are among the teams most interested in Laughton, with the Maple Leafs seen as a natural fit due to his ties to the area.

However, Toronto’s lack of a 2025 first-round pick means they would need to offer a 2026 selection or a prospect like Fraser Minten or Easton Cowan.

Three other teams—two from the Eastern Conference and one from the West—have recently inquired about Laughton. The availability of players like Ryan O’Reilly could also impact the trade market, though his contract situation remains uncertain.

Laughton is one of the most respected voices in the locker room, and moving him without a clear return could disrupt the team’s foundation.

Head coach John Tortorella spoke on the balance between loyalty and making the team better, saying, “You just don’t say, ‘OK, he’s a great guy in the room.’ If there’s a chance we get better in certain situations, you have to do things.”

As the trade deadline approaches, the Flyers remain in control, and unless a team meets their price, Laughton could once again stay in Philadelphia.
