Report: New York Islanders to Trade Brock Nelson

The New York Islanders have entered sell mode and Brock Nelson isn't going to be with the organization past the 3pm trade deadline on Friday, according to Arthur Staple.

Nelson, 33, is a pending free agent making $6 million AAV. He owns a no-trade clause that covers 16 teams, and from Thursday's rumors it sounds like the Winnipeg Jets, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings are the most interested.

Nelson has scored 20 goals and 43 points in 61 games this season, averaging 19:21 of ice-time per game. Nelson's a speedster who can play the wing or down the middle, and he's effective in all three zones, while playing both sides of special teams. He's landed only 25 hits this season, so his game doesn't scream playoff hockey, but his speed plays and he can score in bunches, which can make or break a playoff series.

The Islanders are in sell mode and Lou Lamoriello is going to do his best to re-tool on the fly and avoid a full rebuild.
