Report: San Jose Sharks expected to trade 2 forwards

The San Jose Sharks are the definition of 'sellers' ahead of the March 7 trade deadline. GM Mike Grier continues to be in the beginning stages of his rebuild, and with some legitimate core pieces to build around, it won't be long before the Sharks are relevant again.

For now, it's sell mode and Grier has been getting calls on several of his players, including both Luke Kunin and Nico Sturm, this according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period

Forwards Luke Kunin and Nico Sturm are playing on expiring contracts and are eligible to become unrestricted free agents July 1. The Sharks have made both players available and both are considered prime candidates to be moved by March 7 at 3pm ET.

Kunin has been gaining attention around the league as a right-handed center option, with plays on the edge. He's chipped in offensively this season as well, and could be perfectly suited for a third-line role on a contending team. Kunin has 11 goals and 18 points in 60 games this year, and is owed $2.75 million, and doesn't have any trade protection.

Sturm, who has already gone public to say he knows he's getting moved, has six goals and 12 points in 44 games this season for San Jose, and he's two years old than Kunin at 29, and comes a bit cheaper at $2 million AAV against the cap.

The Sharks also have made both Vitek Vanecek and Alexandar Georgiev available for the trade deadline, but at this point, the goalie market has slowed down in a major way, and there's certainly a chance neither goaltender is dealt before the deadline.
