Report: Winnipeg Jets Have Top Trade Deadline Priority

What a season it has been for the Winnipeg Jets. At the time of this writing, they have a 42-16-4 record and are at the top of the NHL standings. Due to this, there is a clear expectation that they will be adding to their roster as they prepare for the playoffs.

During the latest episode of TSN's Insider Trading, Darren Dreger revealed the Winnipeg Jets' top goal for the 2025 NHL trade deadline. According to the NHL insider, the Jets are looking to add a second-line center before the deadline passes.

"That's [a second-line center] exactly what the priority is," Dreger said. "It could come down to Toronto and Winnipeg."

Dreger also specifically mentioned New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson as a target for the Jets.

"Brock Nelson would be a real good add as a 2C for the Winnipeg Jets," Dreger said. "Sometimes trade protection comes into play, too, when players have to waive to go to Winnipeg. In this case, it feels that Nelson would be willing to go to Winnipeg."

Bringing in Nelson would undoubtedly give the Jets a major boost for their second-line center spot. The 33-year-old forward is once again having a strong season with the Islanders, as he has 20 goals, 43 points, and a plus-2 rating in 61 games.

It will be fascinating to see if the Jets can acquire Nelson or another notable center before the deadline passes from here.
