Sabres News: Insider Speaks On Critical Offseason Needs For Buffalo

Elliotte Friedman recently discussed the Buffalo Sabres’ offseason plans on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, raising key questions about the team’s direction after another disappointing season.

The Sabres will miss the playoffs for the 14th straight year, and changes could be coming. “Is Lindy Ruff the coach next year? What’s Kevyn Adams’ future?” Friedman asked, noting that Adams made it clear internally that missing the playoffs would bring consequences.

The trade of Dylan Cozens signaled a shift, and teams were calling about other Sabres at the deadline. Those conversations may resume in the coming months.

Buffalo also has decisions to make on its roster, including Bowen Byram, who needs a new contract.

Friedman suggested the team will evaluate who else, beyond Cozens, might be moved. While speculation about Rasmus Dahlin wanting out was denied, there’s a clear sense that something isn’t working.

The front office could also see changes, with the possibility of hiring a President of Hockey Operations. If the Sabres win the draft lottery, it could reshape their plans, but as Friedman put it, “someone’s got to give you a real reason to leave there.”

With coaching, management, and roster moves all on the table, this offseason will be very critical in figuring out Buffalo’s next steps.
