Sharks Rumors: Mario Ferraro Linked To New Team

It has been another tough year for the rebuilding San Jose Sharks, and there are set to be clear sellers at the deadline. One of their top trade candidates is defenseman Mario Ferraro.

Ferraro has generated interest around the league all season, but a new team has entered the mix. According to The Fourth Period, the Calgary Flames are now among the clubs linked to Ferraro.

The Flames being interested in Ferraro is understandable. They are in a position to add to their roster, as they currently hold the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Furthermore, they undoubtedly could use help on the left side of their defense, and Ferraro would provide them with that.

When looking at the Flames' current lineup, Ferraro could slot on their top pairing with Rasmus Andersson. In addition, due to his steady defensive play, Ferraro would also be a clear option for their penalty kill.

Ferraro also makes sense for a retooling team like the Flames because he would be more than a rental if acquired. This is because he is signed until the end of the 2025-26 season, carrying an affordable $3.25 million cap hit.

We will now need to wait and see if the Flames end up acquiring Ferraro by the deadline from here. On paper, it looks like there could be a good fit here, but time will tell if it comes to fruition.
