Surprising Nick Robertson Development for Maple Leafs

He was a trade candidate last summer when he said he wanted out, but the Toronto Maple Leafs held onto Nick Robertson. He's been labeled as trade fodder once again approaching today's deadline, or at the very least a cap casualty.

But in a big development this afternoon, there was Robertson taking the ice for practice with the Leafs, indicating that a trade is not on the horizon. Robertson remains a Maple Leaf.

Robertson eventually signed a one-year, $875,000 deal as an RFA late in the summer, in a 'prove it' kind of deal. But he struggled mightily as the season unfolded, with only two goals in the first 23 games. He's picked it up a bit of late however, having more of an impact, and has five goals over the past month. With 11 goals overall now, he's actually got a chance at a career-high, which sits at 14 from last season.

In addition, Max Domi, Calle Järnkrok, and Connor Dewar are also all at Leafs practice, likely not to be shipped out either.

Does this mean that Toronto does not need any more cap space and will not be making any more moves down the stretch to the deadline?

The Leafs acquired the much-needed 3rd line center they were seeking in Scott Laughton, but thus far, that's all they've done as the deadline quickly approaches.
