The Canadiens Just Made Two Major Announcements For Tonight's Game

Big news out of Montreal! The Habs just made two major announcements that could swing tonight’s matchup.

First, head coach Martin St-Louis confirmed that rookie goaltender Jakub Dobes will get the start in tonight’s crucial matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers—a high-pressure situation for the young netminder.

Second, the team will be without defenseman Kaiden Guhle, as he remains unavailable for tonight’s game.

Dobes Gets the Call

This decision signals strong organizational trust in Dobes, especially with the Canadiens in must-win territory.

While some might have expected Samuel Montembeault to start tonight—saving Dobes for a potential surprise performance against the Carolina Hurricanes—St-Louis opted for the opposite approach.

Now, the backup will face the lower-ranked Flyers, while the presumed No. 1, Samuel Montembeault will take on the tougher Hurricanes—a strategy that also has its merits.

As reported by Eric Engels:

"Martin St. Louis says Dobes is starting. No Kaiden Guhle."

No Kaiden Guhle Tonight

The Canadiens will have to wait at least one more night for Guhle’s return, as the 23-year-old defenseman isn’t quite ready to suit up against Philadelphia. However, a comeback tomorrow versus Carolina remains a possibility.

In his absence, Montreal’s blue line will lean on Arber Xhekaj, Jayden Struble, and David Savard to hold things down against the Flyers.
