TRADE: Capitals Acquire Anthony Beauvillier From Penguins
The Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals have added veteran forward Anthony Beauvillier to their lineup, acquiring him from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick.
Beauvillier, 27, has played in 63 games for Pittsburgh this season, recording 13 goals and seven assists while averaging 13 minutes of ice time per game.
The Capitals did not need to make a corresponding roster move, as they had an open spot following Jakub Vrána’s departure via waivers.

Beauvillier, a first-round pick by the New York Islanders in 2015, has bounced between multiple teams in recent years, now joining his sixth organization since 2023.
After spending parts of seven seasons with New York, he was included in the Bo Horvat trade to Vancouver before stints with Chicago and Nashville last season.
He signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with Pittsburgh last summer and has been a reliable presence in their lineup, even skating alongside Evgeni Malkin and Philip Tomasino at times.
“He’s a solid depth piece who can contribute offensively,” TSN’s Chris Johnston noted.

For the Penguins, the deal restores their second-round selection in the upcoming draft after they traded their own pick to Montreal in the 2023 Erik Karlsson deal.
With Pittsburgh struggling this season, they’ve begun moving expiring contracts, previously sending Lars Eller back to Washington in another trade.
Meanwhile, the Capitals still have $3.175 million in cap space, per PuckPedia, leaving the door open for additional moves before the deadline.
