2025 SJS 3rd Round Pick
The deal sees the Rangers acquire Brendan Brisson and a third-round pick in the 2025 Draft (formerly San Jose's pick). NYR retain 50% of Smith's $3.75M cap hit.
Smith was a pending UFA, coming off a $5 million cap hit. The middle-six two-way player had 10 goals and 29 points in 58 games this season in his one year with the Rangers.
He heads back to Vegas, where he was an original Golden Misfit, and won a Stanley Cup in his 6th and final season there in 2023. He had a nice playoff run for them that year, with 14 points in 22 games and a +9 rating.
Brisson, a 23-year-old center, was a 1st round selection (29th overall), by Vegas in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He's played nine games up with the big club this season with no points. Last year, he had eight points in 15 games. He has 19 points in 45 games with Henderson in the AHL.
